Here are just a few of the beautiful children I photographed this fall. I waited to post these in order to not ruin any Christmas surprises. Working one on one with children is my favorite thing to do. They each have such unique personalities and it is fun to connect with them and by doing that creating beautiful art for their families to have forever.

I am very excited to offer a Christmas Card special!! On November 21st, 22nd and 23rd I will be doing 30 min sessions for $50 and that includes FIVE retouched images with full copyright release. They will be in studio only (because as much as I wish I could control the weather, I can't!) My sweet little girl turned 11 yesterday! She is my angel and I can't even begin to say how much I love her. She is kind and thoughtful, clever and funny. She is perfection in my eyes and my life is better because she is in it. I love you, my sweet angel girl! Happy Birthday....

More as promised... I had the most delicious lunch today with the mother of this beautiful crew (thank you J, I think we should make our little lunch a monthly tradition, my treat next time). I love how all of these turned out. I hope they will be something the family can enjoy for years to come. I think the best part of photography is creating something that will last for a lifetime. One of my favorite quotes is from a local photographer. One of my photography idol's. Okay seriously, have you ever seen anything cuter? I loved this hat so I thought I would put it on for a few shots during his little mini session for January (Yes, I am determined to keep my new years resolution). And unlike the rest of my children at this age he didn't pull it off. I loved so many of these shots I could have shared a hundred, that's about how many I took anyway. Have a great day! I'll share more later, but right now I have to go back to writing my talk for church.

Flying Time

My sweet baby is almost six months old. I have tried so hard to cherish every moment and soak up all that sweet baby wonderfulness. But time flies by with out a single consideration to my longing heart for it to slow down just a beat or two. I appreciate all that he brings to my life, with increased perspective, I am more aware of the precious gift he is in my life and I don't want this time to end. That's what I love most about photography, it give me the power to stop time right where I want, and hold on to it forever.

But I had to share the truffles and caramels I made this year. They were fun to make, and relatively easy. My good friend Callene shared the recipe for the Truffles with me. It is most definitely a keeper.

Chocolate Truffles
Basic truffle ingredients

· 4oz. dark choc, 2oz. milk choc, 2oz semisweet chopped into small pieces
· 1/2 cup of heavy whipping cream
· 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
Optional flavorings:
· Mint leaves (1 bunch, stems removed, chopped, about 1 cup)
· Cinnamon and cardamom (1 cinnamon stick, 2 cardamom pods)
· Almond extract (1 teaspoon)
· Orange extract (1 teaspoon)
Truffle coatings
· Cocoa powder
· Finely chopped walnuts
· Finely chopped almonds
· Coconut

DIRECTIONS
In a small saucepan bring the heavy whipping cream to a simmer (be sure to stir and scrape down the sides with a rubber spatula every few minutes).
If you are using one of the other flavorings, stir it in with the cream (and ignore vanilla in the next step). If adding mint or other solids, after the cream simmers, remove from heat and let seep for an hour. Then strain away solids, and return the cream to a simmer and proceed with recipe.
Place the chocolate in a separate bowl. Pour the cream over the chocolate, add the vanilla if needed, and allow to stand for a few minutes, then stir until smooth.
Allow to cool, then place in the refrigerator for two hours. Remove and with a teaspoon roll out balls. Roll in your hands quickly (as it will melt from the heat of your hands) and place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Place in the refrigerator overnight. Roll in cocoa powder, coconut or chopped nuts and serve, or place back in the refrigerator until needed.

It seems that the older my children get, the harder it is to find the time to capture them in there day to day activities, you know those simple little moments that just make up the stuff of life. I was looking for another picture and came across these little gems. I love these pictures of T-bone, they completely capture his personality and it make me so happy that I took the time to pull out the camera and snap them.

It is my only goal for 2011... take more pictures of my own children.

I spend a lot of time taking pictures of children and I love it. It makes me really really happy. I love when parents come to me and tell me that I captured their child's personality or a special stage or age. But I find myself slacking when it comes to my own children. I was really good at it when I worked for Creating Keepsakes, but for the past two years I have completely let it go. So for the next year I have a goal of doing little mini sessions with each of my children once a month and I will post the results here with little tips and such about how I achieved the results. Sound like a good plan?

So here we go....

Window light: Grab one of your children and put them in front of a window, any window will do. In these pictures T-bone was literally about six inches from the window (people ask me that a lot, how close to put their subject to what ever light source they are using) I actually cropped out the window sill in order to achieve the look I was going for. It was cloudy outside and I need to get as much light as possible on him in order to get a good exposure and to ensure that the pictures would be nice and sharp.

Have any photography/camera/Photoshop related questions? With each of these post I will try and answer as many of your questions as I can. I am not an expert on everything, but I am happy to share what I have learned. So ask away!

The Family Christmas Card

The Beautiful Olympic Peninsula

Never been there before, but I was stunned by how beautiful it was. The Rain-forest was incredible and to drive another hour and be at the beach was very cool. Plus I got to be there with my favorite people! The beach was so foggy that it was hard to see much while we were there. But right before we left the fog lifted and we could see the most amazing view. The entire experience was a photographers dream come true! What a great way to celebrate my 100th post!!

I am taking the most fabulous photography class from the ever so talented Kelly Sansom. Her and her husband Kelly (yes, they are both named Kelly) are the owners of Gallery Photography In our class last week she challenged us to take photo's of some of our favorite things related to fall and use what we have learned. Can I just tell you how fun this was? Despite the fact that I waited until the last minute to finish the assignment (I really need to work on that procrastination thing), it was really fun to step outside of my comfort zone and take pictures of nature. I loved it! In the class she talked about creating art for your home from the pictures that we take. Can't you just see some of this hanging in my house? I am so excited about it. I think I will do this for every season and maybe create a photo collage on my new bookshelf. Any way I just wanted to share.
